Thank You

Mr Munir and Mr Adam was happy on our last presentation :)

Times flies really fast this semester. It has been killing me and my classmates. Our workload was tripled. We hardly have time to breath. I would say, Packaging is a tough subject. To design it is another thing, but to assemble it into pieces are seriously a tedious task. One needs to redo and redo and redo to come up with a perfect (or almost perfect) packaging.

However, i would like to convey my highest appreciation to our forever AWESOME and dedicated lecturers, Mr. Adam and Mr. Munir for all they guidance and patience dealing with us. Thank you for telling us what goes well and what goes wrong with our work. I do learn a lot out of this class and I believe it will be useful in my career in future.

Thank you.

Natasha.

Don't you wish you have this printer and workstation at home? Life would be awesome!

There's 2 size of coffee pack inside. the black one is for big cup and the green one is for small cup. I came up with this idea because i always have problem making instant coffee. Sometimes i have big cup, sometimes i have small cup. So, i think this packaging will solve the problem.

Coffee box and merchandiser.

My second assignment is coffee box and merchandiser rack. I pick coffee because i love drinking coffee. So does the rest of the world. Coffee have a broad market.

Coffee Packaging - Café Vivace

Café Vivace that means eternal coffee in French, comes in 3 different flavors. The flavors are French Roast, Brazillian Brew and Sumatran Blend. These are one of the famous coffee blends in the world. However, I twist the name a little to make the flavor more interesting.

The design
The packaging is done in 3 different colors for each flavor, but maintaining the dark brown color as a total. This is to provide the look of the same branding for the product. Dark brown is used as the main color because it is the color of coffee. Orange, green and yellow are used because they are the color of nature. Hence, it gives the ambience of nature to the packaging. It is important to have the nature ambience because coffee comes from nature and it gives people confidence to buy the product as it gives the natural feel of the product.

Also, they are labeled 1 (un), 2 (dos), 3 (tres). This is to emphasize on the different flavor they have, and it act as a guidelines for the consumer to buy the product. Sometimes, consumer remembers number more than the flavor name. So, it will be easier for them to spot the number rather than the flavor. I play around with different typography to bring up a fun yet subtle look for the packaging. I use the bird to represent each country; an eagle for Sumatran Blend, a parrot for Brazillian Blend and a Toucan for French Roast. This is because those birds are often seen in the respective country.

The product
I pack the coffee in two sizes of straw. One is large straw and one is small straw. This is because; I would like to cater to different sizes of cup. Sometimes, we just would like to make coffee in a small cup; thus, we only need a little coffee bean. When people buy my product, they have the convenience to make coffee in the amount that they like. Also, by packing my coffee in a straw, people can just grab a few sticks and bring it for traveling, without worrying that it will spill in their bag. The straw are sealed on both ends, which means your coffee beans will be fresh and nice when you brew them!

The merchandise rack

The rack concept is like a pyramid. The product will be arranged according to their flavor, and it will form a pyramid look due to the different height of the rack. I pick this design because, from my research, this rack design is the most popular and convenient. Mostly, the rack will be place on a table near the cashier counter, or in a coffee shop or a restaurant. If a customer like the coffee served in the coffee shop or the restaurant, they can straightly purchase them off the rack.

The making of mooncake box...

My idea of this mooncake is a gift idea. People could actually give it to their friends and family. The best thing about this mooncake box is, it comes with a tray and plastic "knife". With this, people can enjoy the mooncake straight away and pack it back when they're finish. the tray are slip into the bottom of the box, together with the knife.

Tray, which also acts as a wishing card from Mandarin Oriental.

The box itself. The color gold is chosen because gold resembles prosperity.

Mooncake box.

We were given a Mooncake box packaging for our first assignment. The idea was to make it look classy and expensive. We have to pick a brand to represent for this project.

A little bit info on mooncake:
Mooncake (simplified Chinese月饼traditional Chinese月餅pinyinyuè bĭng) is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhongqiu). The festival is for lunar worship and moon watching, when mooncakes are regarded as an indispensable delicacy. Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the four most important Chinese festivals.

So, i begin my hunt towards a unique box. here is my top 3 choices.

I pick the 2nd one, because i think the idea is simple but effective. The box could be flatten out, which will be great for storage. This might look too plain now, but i will make it look even better with different material.

I pick Mandarin Oriental Hotel as my client, because mooncake is a chinese festival. Also, Mandarin Oriental Hotel is an awesome hotel in KL. So, they have a good reputation amongs other hotel.
